Phnom Penh is a city of amazing architecture stamped with diverse influences, mainly French. Phnom Penh also makes a perfect base for many fantastic discoveries to surrounding areas.
Wat Phnom
Atop a 27 meter hill, Wat Phnom is the symbol of the city. You will see numerous Buddha statues, mural paintings and a sacred stupa housing the ashes of King Ponhea Yat, who chose Phnom Penh as the capital in 143.
Silver Pagoda
Silver Pagoda or Wat Preah Keo houses many national treasures, including gold and emerald Buddha statues. It is also famous with 5329 silver tiles inlaid.
The Royal Palace
The Royal Palace is a major tourist site in Phnom Penh, which also include the impressive Silver Pagoda and Temple of Emerald Buddha. These buildings were built in 1866 by the French with inspirations from Khmer sculpture. The palace boasts gorgeous roofs and facades of royal yellow.
Angkor Borei
Around 80km south of Phnom Penh, the ancient town Angkor Borei reserves a number of secrets. The town was founded in the fourth century and archaeological effort has reveals part of its glory. Admire the great temple of Phnom Da and splendid view from the hilltop!
Central Market
The Central Market was built during 1930s in Art Deco style. Cambodian people call it Phsar Thmey, meaning “A New Market”. The market features a huge dome and four wings with yellow façades.
River life
Discover the vibrant river life woven by the water. Admire another beautiful side of Phnom Penh with its houses on stilts, laid back fishing villages and gentle local people.
Tuol Sleng Museum
Visiting the Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocidal Crime is a shocking experience for visitors. From April 1975 until January 1979 under the Pol Pot regime, this was the most terrifying prison of the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia. Of the 17,000 people imprisoned here, only seven survived!
Choeung Ek
Known as the Killing Field during the Pol Pot regime, the former vineyard Choeung Ek recorded the worst atrocities in Cambodia history: the deaths of more than 17,000 men, women and children. The mass grave and the killing field remain today.
